What would happen to your business tommorrow if you lost some or all of your data today?!
It’s our sincere hope that your organization has some form of a disaster recovery or business continuity plan in place in case the unthinkable happens, however; in our experience most small businesses simply have an external hard drive connected to a server or workstation and not only never check to see if it’s actually backing up their data, but more often don’t realize just how dangerous this practice is!
Dangerous?! But If My Data is Backed Up What Could Go Wrong?
Arizona doesn’t really have much to worry about in the way of natural disasters like hurricanes and tornadoes but…what about lightening strikes, floods, and of course the ever powerful haboob
Natural or man-made/caused this is never a good thing, if you hardware does manage to survive the fire, what about all the water the fire department just sprayed in your server room? How about a neighboring building or business catching fire?
We all like to live the golden rule but unfortunately not everybody in our community does, so what happens if a break-in occurs and ALL of your computer equipment is gone (don’t scoff, it’s happened).
You don’t say, not in Arizona! If every piece of critical equipment in your office isn’t on some sort of surge protection or suppression system you are just asking for Mr. Murphy to come visit.
No matter how diligent you or I are about your server maintenance, crashes happen. Now with our managed services this is often a predictable event that we can usually avoid, but again, crashes happen.
Nobody cares about or for your business the way you do. When it comes down to it, most employees don’t have any loyalty or expectation of such in return. This leads to the potential for “destructive” activities by employees, contractors, or even customers depending on the access they have to your IT systems.
These only account for a small portion of what kind of risk you are putting your business at without a backup solution or just a simple external hard drive. On top of these issues you need to think about how to access the data if a crash happens. How do I get to my data? Can my business still operate without my data? What about my staff? Forget the server, how about the data stored on each of your workstations around the office? How long can I go without my data? What if I can never recover some or all of my data?
So…these questions all lead to “What do we do to protect our company?”
